‘The Boy Band Con’ A Must-See at SXSW

The latest Pilgrim and 1620 Media doc, The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story is set for its big premiere this month at the SXSW Film Festival and the hype has already started to build. The film follows infamous music producer, Lou Pearlman.

In the 1990s, boy bands were king. Groups like N’SYNC and the Backstreet Boys were international sensations. But that wasn’t the whole story. Lou Pearlman was the producer behind the pop explosion of the early 90s, but he was anything but an artist. In fact many would might call him a monster. From defrauding the bands that made him famous to multiple accusations of molestation, The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story, takes an intimate look behind the scenes at the man who created… and swindled some of the greatest talents of the decade.

With three screenings scheduled for the Austin-based film festival, the documentary has already grabbed the attention of multiple news outlets. Everyone from Variety and Rolling Stone to the Chicago Tribune and the Austin Statesman are getting in on the hype for the film.

March 13 – 3 p.m. at Paramount Theatre

March 14 – 1:45 p.m. at Alamo South Lamar E

March 16 – 4:45 p.m. at Stateside Theatre
